In the contemporary world, where mankind is afflicted by all kinds of tensions, strains, stresses and diseases, ‘WELLNESS’ has almost assumed a divine status – everyone seeks the ideal mantra for wellness but it is almost impossible to understand the way to attaining TOTAL WELLNESS.

Is it so difficult to attain a state of total wellness?

Well, let me see if I can pinpoint on what is wellness. Firstly, let us look at the established definitions as appear in our dictionaries: defines wellness as “the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially the result of deliberate effort”

Merriam-Webster says that it is the “quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought goal”

Cambridge says it is the “state of being healthy”

Someone said to me that wellness is “the state of well-being”

All of the above can best be described as attempts to define Wellness. None of the above captures the word in entirety. Let me also make an attempt to define it.

In my opinion, wellness is that state when a person attains complete satisfaction from all those dynamic factors – internal and external – that affect his/her life.

In other words, attaining perfect wellness is a continuous process of being aware of and either eliminating the negative impact of the factors in our immediate environment that create hurdles for us to attain the sense of complete well-being or immunizing ourselves from it.

And yes, it can be done, albeit, with dedicated efforts.

Through this website, in the coming times, I shall attempt to address the various elements of wellness as well as share my thoughts on attaining that perfect state of wellness.

I also invite you, my readers, to express your thoughts, views, opinions and experiences to make this richer in content and helpful to all.

  1. It is definitely a continuous process, that I know for me, takes some effort. I have work at some areas such as emotional well being, and physical well being. I do go to the gym regularly, which does help. It is a matter of consistently watching my eating habit. They seem to be the hardest for me to keep strong on the right path.

  3. Concur with your statements. Wellness is totally a continuous state of self improvement. It not a one time and you are done forever type of thing. It something that must be maintained and continuously worked on to be sustainable.

      Well, the definition remains the same, what changes with the stages of life is our prioritisation of the dimensions of wellness. For instance in our youth, physical wellness is not all that important for our body’s strength, immune system etc. are robust, and this changes as we age.
